Malaysian Fashion Designer Sharifah Kirana Syed Ghazali, or better known as Kirana showcased her latest collection in Karachi Fashion Week at 2010. Styleablaze brings to you yet another amazing collection of this international designer who is unique in all aspects of her designs. Kirana is one of the most sought after Malaysian Fashion Designer and has been in the fashion business for more than a good 20 years. As Kirana said in one of her interviews,” Fashion must have a meaning in terms of culture, in our everyday life that is fashion,” This is truly reflected in her designs which are ethnic in their cuts but yet can be worn in an everyday manner. They are unique and something truly Kirana, complete with the signature caricature or face of a woman printed on the clothes.
This latest collection of hers is called ‘Mahsuri’ which is actually the name of the lead charcter of a girl in a famous Malaysian legend by the same name. As the legend goes, Mahsuri is a girl who was accused by the people of her village to have a bad character and that she lured men to sinful ways. She was murdered for that and when her blood flowed out of her body, it was white in color. This signifies her purity inside, but was misunderstood. Kirana’s basic signature colors are red, black and white –each signifying Mahsuri’s characteristics, red for her bravery, black for her bitter life and white for her purity. Even in this collection, Kirana has used these basic colors a lot as well as the face of a woman with beautiful hair and pretty face, printed on her clothes. This collection is uniquely ‘Kirana’ and has a womanly feel to it, which is a level above being simply feminine. It is high street fashion and chic because of its cuts and lines in the skirts and dresses. It looks like it belongs on a high end party and worn by a woman who is sure about herself.
