Priyanka Chopra wins best actress national award
India's 56th National Film Awards for 2008 happened with all the shine and show. The President of the country Pratibha Patil did the honors to present the awards to the winners in Delhi on Friday.
Bollywood's current favorite, the ultimate style diva Priyanka Chopra got the prestigious award for best actress for her performance in the movie Fashion. Actor Arjun Rampal was chosen the best supporting actor for the national award.
It was also the first time that a technician was honored with this most prestigious film award. Well known cinematographer V. K. Murthy got the Dada Saheb Phalke award for the year. V. K. Murthy was welcomed and applauded by a standing ovation. Murthy is the first one to shot India's first cinemascope movie Kagaz Ke Phool. The respected cinematographer is also the first one to get this award.
There were total 130 awards presented across 69 categories. On the occasion the President of the country said that she feels proud about the international recognition that the country's film industry has been getting. The award ceremony was hosted by beautiful actress Divya Dutta and Ashutosh Rana. Director Dibakar Banerjee, whose latest film Love Sex aur Dhoka is busy making controversial rounds across media, got the award for best popular film providing wholesome entertainment Oye Lucky! Lucy Oye Hindi.
