USA : Tandy Brands to cease distribution opts at West Bend facility

Tandy Brands Accessories Inc announced that, consistent with its ongoing effort to streamline operations and improve profitability, it will cease distribution operations at the Company's facility in West Bend, Wisconsin during the third quarter of fiscal 2008.

Distribution that has been done at this facility will be transferred to either the Company's Dallas or Yoakum, Texas distribution facilities or may be outsourced to a well-respected, third-party vendor. The Company expects to conclude the majority of its distribution operations at the 264,000 square foot facility by January 31, 2008.

The Company has listed the facility for sale with a broker in West Bend. USA : Nexia to effect A 1-For-100 everse stock split

Nexia Holdings Inc announced that it will effect a 1-for-100 reverse split as result of complaints that many long time investors, shareholders and employees are unable to trade Nexia's stock as result of no bid being reflected in the security.

The reverse split will reduce the authorized shares from 50 Billion to 500 Million shares. The effective date of the split is yet to be determined, and will be announced as soon as it is confirmed. Further adjustments to the authorized shares may need to be made via shareholder action, which will be disclosed in a Schedule 14C to be filed with the sec.

Richard Surber, CEO of Nexia, stated, "I have agonized over the reverse split option and decided that there are no better options. I recently watched a Disney film called 'Meet the Robinson's' with my six-year old niece.

In the film, a young orphan becomes a very successful scientist and entrepreneur. After failing many times to perfect certain inventions.

He is given sage advice by other scientist, 'Keep moving forward.' Although a reverse split may appear to be a step backward, we believe by taking one step back, we can make two steps forward."

"Nexia will be like the orphan that becomes a fantastic success only if our team keeps moving the company forward. Nexia has made tremendous progress over the last 12 months.

It is unfortunate that Nexia has been unable to get the traction needed to maintain a respectable market capitalization.

Canada : Swimco plaid patterns plays new role

November 26, 2007

Top swimwear brands are kicking off their kilts and proudly presenting plaid on everything from tiny bikinis, to long boardshorts, to perfectly fitting tankinis. Plaid swimwear and beachwear is one of the hottest ways for winter vacationers to hop into beach-ready fashion.

Starting in November 2007, plaid patterns are the surest way for sun-seeking vacationers to show their fashion savvy at the beach, resort pool or cruiseship deck. Colours have marched well beyond the ho-hum of red and green tartans, to a limitless list of options including black with vibrant aqua and red, and royal blue jewel tone with accents of white and navy.

Plaid swimwear is bringing traditional patterns forward into today's fashion by using bright tones, metallic trim and youthful colour combinations.

"You can change your personal style by choosing a delicate cowgirl plaid or great big European-inspired tartan", commented Elisa Jacobs, Swimco's buyer for junior styles. Brands to look for include Roxy, JAG, Hurley, Billabong, Raisins and Quiksilver.

Plaid is a pattern with centuries of history, often used to identify a family's heritage. In the past, plaid kilts were worn as early as the 1500's and featured "tartan" patterns woven out of dark wool with sparse usage of expensive coloured wool. Traditions were established when tartans were associated as a family badge of loyalty.

In the 1970s, plaid turned from conservative looks to punk-appeal when funky fashion leaders began wearing it to make a statement. This pattern is associated with old-school images of golfers, private schools and royalty.

Ironically, when worn in today's splashy combinations, it shows the wearer's preppy fashion sense. With today's unique colour groupings, combined with fine swimwear styles, plaid is chic.

Swimco is proud to be Western Canada's leading swimwear retailer, with 13 stores and nearly 150 employees. Lori Bacon, her husband Dave Bacon, and her brother Steve Forseth are at the helm, steering the company with the same family values that started it all 33 years ago.

Italy : Hi-tech fabrics & skilful finishes in GEOX SS 08 collections

November 26, 2007

Warm summer breezes wake nature from her winter sleep. Colours grow brighter, glowing hues emerge and new shapes begin to appear on the horizon.

That’s the mood of the Geox SS 08 collections: continuity with seasons gone by but also a constant search for sources of inspiration to create shoes that recall those popular in the past, now reinvented in unique styles.

Colours are increasingly striking, with white, black and red patent leather, fruity pastel shades, cocoa and cream, or shimmering gold and silver.

There’s a greater choice of materials too: smooth and wrinkled calf, stressed leather, interwoven straw, cork and wood, bright reflective coloured stones and artful combinations of hi-tech fabrics and skilful finishes.

Geox Woman:
Sunny and seductive, oozing feminine charm but never ostentatious: that’s the woman inspiring Geox’s SS 08 collections.

Like a post-modern lady at the court of a great king, Geox woman always knows how to behave. She always has the right pair of shoes to demonstrate her taste to herself as well as to others by selecting the perfect match: a discriminating sense of style is married with the latest technology, and comfort with charisma.

Classic low-cut pumps, with high heels and very slightly pointed toes, come in a choice of black & white or white trim on black patent leather, a contrast with an Audrey Hepburn touch.

Or there’s the bon-ton version: round toes with ribbon bow and choice of heel, for an eternal classic in modern guise.

Cherry red for toujours trendy slingbacks, really low-cut with open back, sparkling with strass at ankle and toe: Simply chic.

Ultra-feminine sandals give a tantalising glimpse of beautiful feet. Oodles of models, shapes and shades share the need for freedom.

Chunky heels, ankle fastening, square toes, and colours from cornfields and coffee plantations result in a vaguely retro version.

Low heels, tapered outline, total black or gold, with a narrow front insert laden with glittering stones in shades of wisteria, ice and emerald: elegant by night or by day. Seventies wedges for these woven sandals that support and draw attention to the foot. Warm honey gold tones add to the carefree effect.

Italy : German market is the biggest in Europe for Geox

November 26, 2007

The new Geox Shop debuts in Frankfurt, the first in Germany based on the new retail concept.

A winning concept which at MAPIC – the world’s most important real estate event – was assigned the prestigious MAPIC AWARD for the clothing/fashion and retail category.

The award was assigned by an international panel that recognised to Geox the extraordinary store concept and ambitious expansion.

With its 300 square metres, the Frankfurt shop represents the biggest Geox store in Europe. An ideal location which will contribute to enhance Geox products, from the traditional ones to the new clothing line even further, for a “breathing total look”.

Like traditional stores, the Frankfort store has been designed to be easier for customers to use and closer to their needs.

A lot of attention has been paid to the children’s collection, a real coloured island within the store: walls with panels painted in various colours and shoes hanging from the walls make this environment even more cheerful and lively.

The stores furnishings are quite minimal, capturing that sought-after simplicity that distinguishes all Geox products. The environment is spacious and luminous, the result of a sophisticated play of lights that highlights the white in the tiles.

The walls are covered with dark panels that create an agreeable visual contrast with the white sail, the hallmark of all Geox stores, designed to give maximum visibility to its collections.

Italy : Geox SS08 Coats must for all seasons

November 26, 2007

Clean lines gliding over the body from shoulders to pelvis (and sometimes as far as the knee), enhancing the figure and enfolding it with a cool, sensual touch: those are the attributes that distinguish the coats of Geox’s SS08 Collection.

Hi-tech fabrics meet more traditional materials, natural colours are lifted by brilliant hues, fine details combined with well-defined patterns to create a look that’s simply glamorous.

Geox Woman:
A scent of jasmine in the air and the desire for the feel of cool clothing on the skin: in Spring we can’t wait for Summer and we begin to renew our wardrobe.

Never bypass a trenchcoat, a raincoat that’s always in fashion, double-breasted and with a belt that emphasizes the waist. Available in every shade of beige, from sand to oatmeal to warm biscuit, with buttons to match: irresistible because it’s classically up to date.

Don’t forget the jacket, that “must” for all seasons, which takes on a range of subtle overtones when worn over a shirt, a top or a cotton jersey knit.

Tight-waisted, button front, side pockets, the jacket clings to the curve of the bust and ends wickedly just below the waist.

The model in bronze is particularly stunning, while the hi-tech fabric version is gleaming and sensually tactile. Recently back in fashion, the Sahara jacket conveys that ethnic yet urban look.

This modern version of the safari jacket is presented with the traditional four pockets, belted waist and khaki-coloured pre-creased fabric for an experienced traveller effect.

Then there are the bomber jackets, in punchy biker style, with zip fastening and mini-pockets. Also available as a mini-bomber with knitted neck and cuffs and button pockets, this casual model features shiny chocolate shades.

Finally, a new entry, the so-called bolero, a smooth, short jacket that never reaches the waist. Flap pockets, wide rounded collar, in brick-coloured cotton, this is the ideal garment for moonlit Spring evenings.

USA : Senator John Kerry pushes FDA to investigate lead content in lipstick

November 26, 2007

Senators John Kerry, Barbara Boxer and Dianne Feinstein wrote a letter to FDA Commissioner, Dr. Andrew C. von Eschenbach, requesting a full investigation into lipstick products containing lead levels above the legal limit, as recently reported by the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics.

The CSC report highlights the fact that this lack of oversight means consumers are directly ingesting lead each time they wear one of these lipstick products. The senators’ letter asks the FDA to retest the lipsticks that raised red flags, and take immediate steps to reduce consumers’ exposure to lead in lipstick and other cosmetics.

“Dangerous levels of lead in lipstick are the latest reminder that insufficient safeguards at the FDA pose real risks to everyday Americans. From the cosmetics store to the sun block parents count on to protect their children’s skin, there has been a continuous flow of unnerving news in recent months about the FDA’s clear lack of oversight and inspection. Washington is gambling with our health, whether we are aware of it or not. It’s time for the FDA to start taking this responsibility more seriously.”

"Toxic chemicals like lead do not belong in cosmetics such as lipstick that people may be exposed to everyday,” Senator Barbara Boxer, Chairman Environment and Public Works Committee. “FDA should do everything in its power to get products with lead off the shelf."

“I was surprised to learn that lipsticks worn every day have been found to contain dangerous levels of lead. The Food and Drug Administration needs to fully investigate the potential health risks posed by lead in lipsticks. And federal guidelines may be needed to safeguard women’s health and reduce the amount of lead in cosmetic products,” U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein said.

The CSC points out that the FDA has not set a limit for lead in lipstick. High levels of lead are of particular concern to pregnant women, because high doses of lead can have significant impacts on the early brain development of babies and toddlers. Lead has been linked to learning and behavioral problems in children, such as reduced IQ, poorer school performance and aggression.

Denmark : Mr. Ungaro as chief designer to develop Kopenhagen menswear

November 24, 2007

Emanual Ungaro, the French luxury and fashion house renowned for its luxurious and elegant women’s wear line, recently appointed a new chief designer to design and develop a menswear line.

The fashion house is reaching out to fashion-conscious men and wants a men’s line to rival the existing, widely acclaimed line for women.

The man recruited by Emanuel Ungaro to do the job is Franck Boclet, and after no more than six month in his new position, Franck Boclet recently flew to Copenhagen for an inspirational visit to Kopenhagen Studio, the creative fur laboratory run by Kopenhagen Fur in downtown Copenhagen.

Before being headhunted to become chief designer at Emanuel Ungaro, Franck Boclet worked as product manager at the fashion labels Kenzo and Courregès prior to working for a full 16 years as chief designer for the menswear label Smalto.

A technical engineer of profession, Franck Boclet never considered himself a designer and persistently shied away from suggestions he should move from management into the creative field.

I always felt that becoming a designer was something you should qualify for through formal training at design schools so I always turned down proposals from employers that I should start designing.

I felt I couldn’t possibly be a real designer, says Franck Boclet during at coffee break at the Kopenhagen Studio, where he is working with his assistant and the acclaimed Parisian furrier Phillipe Beaulieu, who has previously produced furs for some of the world’s leading fashion houses such as Louis Vuitton, Chloé and Marc Jacobs. For the coming Ungaro men’s collection by Franck Boclet, the fur will be produced by Phillipe Beaulieu.

USA : Special hip clothing for preemies at RedSparks!

Redsparks, founded by Aline and Matt Pfingsten, is a new concept in baby apparel. Upon the birth of their premature daughter, Frankie Marley Pfingsten, Aline realized there was a desparate need for an online destination for mid to high-end clothing, books, developmental toys and games for newborns – preemies in particular. With this in mind, Aline and her husband launched RedSparks, a varitable “one stop shop” for newborn children.

RedSparks is based in the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles, California. Aline Pfingsten was born and raised in Beirut, Lebanon. Her family moved to Southern Califorina in 1988, after which she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a minor in Fashion Merchandising. Matt Pfingsten, her husband of nine years, grew up in Belleville, Illinois, a suburb of St. Louis, MO. He moved to Los Angeles in 1993 to pursue a degree in marketing and graphic design.

“What makes RedSparks different,” states Aline Pfingsten, the company’s founder, “is that we truly care about each and every one of our customers. Having been through the birth of a premature baby ourselves, we understand their concerns and needs, and strive to provide them relief and levity. Our goal is to build RedSparks into a brand that new parents, preemie or not, know they can trust.”

RedSparks features a variety of products and offerings. To begin with, it showcases some of the hottest baby brands on the market today. “I like to stay on the front edge of baby fashion”, says Pfingsten, “but maintain my commitment to quality. Just because its trendy doesn’t mean it’s a great product”. With that concept in mind, Aline has pieced together a unique and eclectic blend of merchandise.

China : Cloth shoes strides ahead to mark renewed glory

November 17, 2007

Recently, the leather shoe trend has gone down in China leading to the fall of prices. Thus, Chinese leather shoes enterprises are confronting the difficult situation as the profits are meager and chances for the future development are also quite less.

Now, shoes made of cloth are in vogue. A pair of these can be purchased at about 40 yuan to over 100 yuan. The shoe markets are splashed with a varied range. Women shoes made cotton and silk cloth, have excellent designs and are very fashionable. However, old style shoes are attracting many customers.

Although, cloth shoes have a history of over 3000 years, from the eighties, these began to disappear from Chinese market. But, once again, these have reappeared with a bang.

Australia : aussieBum gets bigger & bigger!

November 16, 2007

It's official; this morning in Sydney's Royal Botanic Gardens, aussieBum revealed the world's BIGGEST underwear!.

aussieBum has successfully broken the Guinness World Record by producing the world's largest pair of underwear on international Guinness World Records Day.

The underwear, constructed from a dazzling red Sensitive fabric provided by leading Italian fabric firm Eurojersey, took over two months to produce.

Measuring in at 15.9 metres (50.85 ft) wide and 10.55 metres (36 ft) high, with a waist circumference of 32 metres (105 ft), the mammoth underwear includes 300 metres of fabric (985 ft), 500 metres (1640.5 ft) of wide-width elastic, 5000 metres (16404 ft) of cotton, a 1.5 x 6 metre (5 x 19.6 ft) logo, and they weigh in at a whopping 180 kg.

The statistics smash the current record of 14.4 metres (47.2 ft) wide and 10.48 metres high.

Producing the undies was no small feat. Eurojersey, aussieBum's long-term partner and major name in the international textiles industry, put its faith into aussieBum and provided the 300 metres (985 ft) of Sensitive fabric necessary to produce the World's Biggest Undies.

The incredibly soft, light and easy-to-handle nature of the Sensitive fabric helped aussieBum achieve this challenge.

The garment was so large that even sailmakers could not help with the production. The aussieBum team spent hours on their hands and knees, hand stitching the underwear, with a team of people feeding the fabric and elastic through an industrial sewing machine.

Sean Ashby, aussieBum founder and Director, says, "The World's Biggest Undies project has been loads of fun! We're thrilled at this new milestone in our company.

Whilst some may suggest that we are heading towards being world's biggest underwear company, we can now definitely confirm that we have, in fact, made the world's biggest undies!".
