Lux Style Awards 2010

 

 The highly anticipated but oft delayed, Lux Style Awards 2010 were held in Karachi, at a local hotel, on Monday night. A multitude of celebrities, models, designers and television anchors descended on the red carpet, dressed in their best outfits. But despite this, the event was a somber affair, with no song or dance performances, due to the recent disastrous floods in Pakistan.

 

The event comprised of a simple sit down dinner, with the awards being nominations being announced by the emcee and the awards being handed out by the presenters.

 

But this somber and somewhat monotonous event was bought to life by this year's host, Sami Shah, whose hilarious script and well-timed jokes were a delightful change from the hosts in the previous years. He was at ease with many of his co-starts, including Meera and joked about the current issues between the Karachi and Lahore fashion councils. His one-liners and entertaining jokes added a refreshing touch to the event.

 

The acceptance speeches were short, with winners thanking everyone who had helped them achieve the award. Model of the Year, Fayeza Ansari thanked her parents, friends and the designers, make-up artists and photographers she has worked with, Hassan Sheheryar Yasin, who won the award for the Best Menswear Designer, (in a taped speech from New York), said his mother would be thrilled he has another trophy and Best Music Producer Rohail Hyatt thanked the team of Coke Studio. Meera received the LSA style icon award and said that she had been inspired by Barbara Sharif, who had won the same award in 2003.

 

Iconic TV actor Roohi Bano was given the Lifetime Achievement Award and received a standing ovation, while noted photographer Mirza Khursheed Masood received the Fashion Lifetime Achievement Award and vowed to continue doing ground breaking work and passing on techniques he has mastered to the next generation.

 

The ceremony dragged itself towards the end as the winners were being announced and the awards were being handed out, one after another.
